Biography

Spyros Lalis holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering and a PhD in Technical Sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ). After his PhD he was a visiting Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of Crete, and a research associate of the Institute for Computer Science at FORTH in Heraklion. Then, he joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Thessaly, where he holds an Associate Professor position. He is also a research associate of the Institute for Research and Technology Thessaly at CERTH in Volos.

His research interests are primarily in systems software, distributed systems, network computing and ubiquitous computing. He has done work on volunteer computing systems, market-based resource allocation, metacomputing systems, ad-hoc wearable/personal computing systems, opportunistic computing in wireless sensor networks, and more recently started working on opportunistic mobile/crowd sensing systems. Developing support for reconfiguration and adaptation in dynamic systems is a recurring theme in his work.
